6-21-03 Jane and Devon's 1st Annual Timex Event

Dear MVH Members: Here is a message from Pam G describing the
wonderful event at the Jacobs' last Saturday: "The 1st annual
Timex event was a smash. Weather in the mid-70's with a light
breeze. Competition was stiff and there was excitement in the
air. Most of the competitors were the usual gang from M.V.H.
plus some new comers from the Athens area. The hosts of the
event were Devon and Jane Jacobs. It was quite obvious as Dave
and I pulled up with our trailer that this was not your typical
backyard event. The rolling hills and streams were inviting.
Devon had put up a very nice dressage ring and beautiful
challenging stadium jumps. There were also 9 cross country jumps
which you could go around. The show had a wonderful relaxed
atmosphere and was great for schooling. The 14 competitors,
under the instructional eye of Lori Holmes, our lovely dressage
judge, rode our test. Bonnie Geiger graciously scribed for Lori
and was helpful and supportive to all the riders. Thank you
Bonnie! You could ride the test 2 times and Lori would critique
our performance. I decided that riding a dressage test once is
enough to make me barf, let alone twice! I think watching
dressage is like watching cement dry! Dave G. and Mike U., both
first-time dressage competitors, were fantastic! The cross
country phase was great! Some of the riders who chose to jump
were Cindy Bowers riding two horses: Otis and Archie, Bill
Dreger was on his lovely big white horse, Norton, Bob Bogart on
Dan, Dave Corcoran on Christa and I rode Alex. The last jump
proved to be the most challenging, a large coop. There were
several refusals but most were able to go over it with some
cracks of the crop! Dave Corcoran definitely was impressive. His
jumping was flawless and I hope to see him this coming season in
the 1st field. I was in the lead after 2 phases of the event but
Bob and Dave C. picked up Steam. Bob had a great stadium ride
and so did Dave C. I showed my skills at side riding and nearly
falling off. I had 21 time faults but hung on to Al's neck and
wiggled back up into the saddle to finish the course. Bill D.
and Cindy gave great efforts in stadium. Mike, Carolyn and Candy
decided to at a leisurely pace and school. After the show some
of us joined Denise and Pete for a nice ride on the trails Devon
had cleared. What a fantastic day! When we returned we found a
dinner for Kings waiting for us: Pork, turkey croissants, rice
casserole, Tori Spellings’ Green Bean and Bacon Bundles (Jane
promised us the recipe), and much more! We sat on the front
porch and joked about our fun day. Thank you, Jane and Devon!
You did a great job on the 1st annual Timex one day! " Here is a
message from Jane, summarizing the Event results and expressing
thanks for all of their helpers: "We had 14 competitors and 17
horses on the farm, 15 hounds who worked the fox pen the night
before, 5 house dogs, and 21 people for dinner.
